Z-Trip takes over Rain after AM passes. If you dont know about Z-Trip, you’re slackin. He was one of the first DJ’s in AZ that my brother and I were inspired by. I still have hella Z-Trip tapes from the Swell days. (AZ heads should know about Swell)
Welcome to the team Cory Kennedy. Is there a better crew in skating than the Girl/Chocolate team? No.
Marcus Troy if it was easy….This hits home because I’m in the process of making a few power moves and things are NOT EASY.
Dam Funk article in the LA Times. I’ve heard good things about this album and ran into Dam out at the Stussy x Clae Party in LA.
Thank You, Kurt Rambis. Such a dope site for OG NBA fans such as myself. Michael Cage’s Jheri Curl was noooooooo joke, spotted on Thankyouforeading.
Jermaine Dupri Living the Life @ WET in San Jose, California…
Scottsdale Rd. Swell, not the Mill Ave ‘ish. Remember being 14 and Z-Trip was just in there spinning and chatting me and my friends up about breakbeats. Also remember: Triple 5 Soul, Freshjive (when it was raved out), DMC World Championship on VHS (discovered A-trak & the Invisible Scratch Pickles) and mad flyers to raves. Man, you just took me way back. Great post!
Matt, you said it all “Scottsdale Rd. Swell, not the Mill Ave ish”. Classic spot, no Serato just records for days.
I remember Fashen w/blue hair, Tricky T with f-cked up fingers, and Kellen buying a drum n bass mixtape! Scottsdale Rd SWELL was the look.
I still have that tape, I think it was blue actually. Gonna dig when I get to the house tonight. I was UPSET when I bought it at first hahaha, I may have even cried in the back of the Volvo!
Man, so many swell memories… from the OG location that became style roc (I think) to the scottsdale location, which provided me rave tickets and my first encounters with emile and Ztrip in the 90’s as well as extra stolen 12’s in sleeves before I had turntables…. and yes to even managing it on mill.
I quit mill when I bought Serato, that and Swell had run it’s course… but Nate, scott, justin, benny, salaz, and Jose all made Mill unique, it was still the best shop in town, only thing was RAVEs died in 2000
yes..I agree that it just records for days.
